  • #SpotlightSaturday We would like to highlight Lowe's Home Improvement, specifically the Valdosta Distribution Center. Employees there have gone above and beyond to support VLPRA and our participants. They have volunteered work hours rebuilding storage sheds for our Special Olympics equipment and donated hundreds of dollars worth of food supplies for our Stocked Cart Race benefiting local hungry children. We so appreciate everything you do for us and the community. Thank you!

  • Come to Freedom Park tomorrow and Saturday to see some tournament baseball and cheer on VLPRA All Star teams! The Dizzy Dean South Georgia State Tournament for boys baseball begins Thursday, June 22nd. VLPRA will host three of the tournament’s six divisions. The 7 year olds, 8 year olds, and 10 year olds will play at Freedom Park with 14 teams from the South Georgia area competing. The championships will be Saturday, June 24th. The Dizzy Dean Georgia State Tournament for girl’s fast pitch softball begins Friday, June 23rd. VLPRA will host the 8u, 10u and 12u divisions. Sixteen teams from all over Georgia will compete in the state tournament that wraps up Saturday, June 24th. All the games will be at Freedom Park. In addition to hosting the tournaments, VLPRA also has several All-Star baseball and softball teams competing. VLPRA’s 7-year-old boys, 8-year-old boys, and 10-year-old boys will be playing in the South State Tournament at Freedom Park, while the Authority’s 6-year-old boys and 11-year-old boys will play in the same tournament at a different location, Lee County. VLPRA’s 8u and 12u fast pitch girls teams will compete in the State Tournament at Freedom Park. This tournament is the precursor to the World Series. In baseball, the top two teams from the state’s south division and the top two teams from the state’s north division advance to the Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven, Mississippi in July. In softball, the top two teams overall advance to the DDWS. It is an honor to be selected for a VLPRA Dizzy Dean Team. Coaches nominate and vote on All-Star players to field the teams and represent our area in tournament play. Music Funeral Services sponsors a holiday meal for our Therapeutics division which serves individuals with special needs. More than 200 individuals with special needs came to the last holiday party, where the Music family provided a catered meal and served food to each participant. The next holiday party is obviously months away, but we are thankful for you guys all year round!

  • We are honored that South Georgia Business + Culture Magazine did this fantastic story on VLPRA as an economic engine. It's a thrill to say that the Authority brought in $6 million in economic impact last year- nearly $2 million more than our overall operating budget. We're at over $2.5 million so far for 2017. #NationalTravelAndTourismWeek is a perfect time to celebrate those successes with our community partners, including the Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority!
